A village by the lake...

... turned into a museum.

Explore the traditions of Mecklenburg. Situated in the “Mueßer Bucht” (the Mueß cove) of lake “Schweriner See”, the open-air museum Schwerin-Mueß invites you to go on a discovery tour. You will be able to enjoy culture and nature united. Get to know the country and its people and discover the charm of the typical thatched timbered houses. Everyone, not only those interested in history or gardening, are going to enjoy themselves.

On the site you can have a look inside traditional northern German houses, a shepherd’s cottage, the village school with its creaking wooden benches and a blacksmith’s shop, where the smith still heats up the wrought iron every Wednesday. Extensive gardens and farmyards, sheep pastures and orchard meadows round off the tour. Embark on a time travel through four centuries of Mecklenburg history. Fascinating exhibitions take visitors from A to Z - from anvil to zoology.
